White oak barn board

This old oak barn board is salvaged from a carriage house built in the 1760’s. The carriage house was near Philadelphia, PA. It is a piece of quarter saw oak 10” wide.  The old fellow that sold it for salvage said the property has always remained in his family but the building had fallen into disrepair and he would rather know the old barn wood was being reused rather than laid to waste.

Note the knot at the end, it is completely stable, due to the tight growth rings of the slower growing virgin trees.
